Here is a testimony of one of my favorite pastors: John Richard Wimber. He was a theologian, teacher, practitioner of signs and wonders, and the founding pastor of the Vineyard Christian Fellowship. He passed away in 1997 at the age of 63. He was also instrumental in developing the Department of Church Growth at Fuller Seminary. He mainly focused on the connection between signs and wonders and church growth and influenced professors like Peter Wagner and Charles Kraft. He explained that he entered Christian ministry to “do the stuff” (healing, miracles, signs, and wonders in the Bible). I just love his attitude toward wanting to see and do the stuff in the Bible in our Christian life and churches today: The Bible said it. I believe it. I want to practice it. He believed in the biblical theology of the priesthood of every believer and that every believer has the ability to prophesy and perform signs and wonders. He explains how he came to this conclusion in his famous testimony, “I’m a Fool for Christ, Whose Fool Are You?” (1 Cor.4:10)
Pastor John Wimber’s testimony will leave you with these two profound questions:
- Do you believe in the biblical teaching of the priesthood of every believer? (1 Pet.2:4-10)
- If so, do you believe that every believer, whose body is the temple of the Holy Spirit and is a priest of that temple, can prophesy, pray in tongue, heal, and perform signs and wonders in Jesus’ name to advance the kingdom of God? (Jn.14:12-14)
