Here is one of my favorite missionary stories. It was their incredible testimony that motivated me to attend the Urbana 84, and subsequently join my church’s short-term mission trip to Kenya, Africa in 1986. Upon returning, I made my decision to give my life to serving God – whatever He wanted me to do, wherever He wanted me to go, and whoever He wanted me to be. Their classic books, Shadow of the Almighty: The Life & Testament of Jim Elliot, and Through Gates of Splendor recounts their amazing stories.

“He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose.” (Jim Elliot)

“And when I went in with my little daughter, some people said, ‘What about medical health? What about the dangers of snakes and things like that?’ But it’s a simple matter of saying out, ‘Lord, if this is what you want me to do, then you’re responsible for the results.’ We have to take every possible human precaution and leave the rest in God’s hand.” (Elisabeth Elliot)
