Lee Strobel is one of my beloved apologists for Christian faith in recent times. He was an investigative journalist for Chicago Tribune in the 70s and 80s, and even received an award for his work. He was an atheist, and when his wife became a Christian, he set out to prove Christianity wrong. However, through his research, he discovered that there were numerous historical facts and data, both within the Bible and outside of it, supporting the validity of the biblical claims about Christ. This led to his conversion and transformation of his life and his family. His story even inspired a movie about him. Since then he has pastored and taught in several churches and currently serves as a teaching pastor in Texas and a professor of Christian Thought in Houston Baptist University.
“Finally, I put down my pen, and I said, ‘Well, wait a second…’ In light of the avalanche of evidence that points so powerfully toward the truth of Christianity, I realized it would take more faith to maintain my atheism than to become a Christian.’ (Lee Strobel)
“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, who were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.” (Jn.1:12-13)
The Case for Christ is probably the first of his “The Case for…” teaching series, which talks about how his research led him to surrender to Christ. He appears to me as a modern-day General Lew Wallace, who sought to discredit the truth of the Bible and ended up giving his life to Christ, and wrote the book Ben Hur. Among his “The Case for…” series, The Case for Christ and the Case for a Creator are my favorites.
