Phil Robertson, widely recognized for his hunting product company Duck Commander and the reality television show Duck Dynasty, shares his testimony about how Jesus changed his life. He passed away last Sunday at the age of 79. Born in Louisiana as the fifth of seven children, Robertson was raised in a family with limited financial resources. Despite these challenges, he excelled athletically in his youth, achieving all-state honors in football, baseball, and track. He attended Louisiana State University (LSU) on a scholarship and played as the first-string quarterback for two seasons (Terry Bradshaw, who later became a Hall of Fame football player and four-time Super Bowl champion with the Pittsburgh Steelers, was his back up quarterback). Here is a video of Terry Bradshaw talking about Phil Robertson during the LSU years.
However, choosing to pursue duck hunting over a career in football, Robertson initially led a lifestyle marked by “Sex, Drugs, and Rock ‘n’ Roll.” However, in his late twenties, he experienced a significant spiritual transformation, becoming a believer and follower of Jesus Christ. Phil recounts that his wife’s prayers and a visit to a preacher were pivotal in changing his heart. His wife, Miss Kay, prayed for him during a challenging period, prompting him to seek out a preacher who had previously attempted to share the Gospel with him. After listening to the preacher’s message, Robertson accepted Jesus as his savior and was baptized, leading to a profound change in his life. According to Birmingham Christian Family Magazine, Phil decided to dedicate himself to sharing the good news of Jesus with others. He also began to apply godly principles in his life, including his relationship with his family. Later, he started his duck product company called Duck Commander and a reality TV show with his family called the Duck Dynasty.
Here is what the Wikipedia says about it:
“As an avid duck hunter, Robertson was dissatisfied with the condition of duck calls. He began to experiment with making a call that would produce the exact sound of a duck. He invented his first Duck Commander call in 1972. He received a patent for this call and the Duck Commander Company was incorporated in 1973. Today, the company of Duck Commander is a multimillion-dollar business, headed by his son, Willie Robertson. Robertson and his family were portrayed on the A&E reality television series Duck Dynasty, which ran from 2012 to 2017, and covered their daily lives within Duck Commander.”
