Here is one of my favorite book from back in the day. It’s called Famous Couples of the Bible by Pastor Richard L. Strauss. At the time, I was a single young man seeking to know God’s will for finding a godly wife. My discipler and mentor gave me this book to read and told me to see things from God’s perspective on what constitutes a godly marriage. Having both positive and negative examples of biblical couples, the book helped me to see that marriage is more than just romance and falling in love. It is first and foremost a picture of our relationship with Christ, who loved us and gave himself for us. It is also about walking together with someone who is compatible so that they can serve God and one another to grow in faith. I don’t know if it is still in print but if you can find one in print I would encourage you to get a copy. Here is the overview of its content:
- The story of Adam and Eve – “The honeymoon is over”
- The story of Abraham and Sarah – “Yes, my Lord”
- The story of Isaac and Rebekah – “Talk to me”
- The story of Jacob and Rachel – “Never satisfied!”
- The story of Boaz and Ruth – “Two to get ready”
- The story of David and Bathsheba – “Caught in the tempter’s trap”
- The story of Ahab and Jezebel – “My way”
- The story of Hosea and Gomer – “Undying love”
- The story of Ahasuerus and Esther – “For such a time as this”
