As followers of Jesus Christ, we can be assured that we are not just in good hands, but in God’s hands. One of my favorite prayers in the Bible is the prayer of Jabez, who prayed that God would bless him, enlarge his borders, that HIS HAND MIGHT BE WITH HIM, and keep him from evil so as to not experience pain in life (1 Chron.4:9-10). Among several requests, Jabez asked that God’s “hand” might be with him. In response, God granted him what he requested. So, what would it look like if God’s hand was with us today? Have you ever wondered what your life would be like if God’s hand was with you? I have, and here are some of my discoveries from the Bible.

  1. God’s hand uniquely created and shaped me.

“But now, O LORD, Thou art our Father, we are the clay, and Thou our potter; and all of us are the work of Thy hand.” (Isa.64:8)

“For Thou didst form my inward parts; Thou didst weave me in my mother’s womb. I will give thanks to Thee, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; wonderful are Thy works, and my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from Thee, when I was made in secret, and skillfully wrought in the depths of the earth. Thine eyes have seen my unformed substance; and in Thy book they were all written, the days that were ordained for me, when as yet there was not one of them.” (Ps.139:13-16)

2. God’s hand will keep me from falling.

“Do not fear, for I am with you; do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand. Behold, all those who are angered at you will be shamed and dishonored; those who contend with you will be as nothing, and will perish. You will seek those who quarrel with you, but will not find them, those who war with you will be as nothing, and non-existent. For I am the LORD your God, who upholds your right hand, who says to you, ‘Do not fear, I will help you.’” (Isa.41:10-13)

“The steps of a man are established by the LORD; and He delights in his way. When he falls, he shall not be hurled headlong; because the LORD is the One who holds his hand.” (Ps.37:23-24)

3. God’s hand will lift and exalt me.

“God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble. Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time.” (1 Pet.5:5-6)

“But Thou, O LORD, art a shield about me, my glory, and the One who lifts my head.” (Ps.3:3)

4. God’s hand will deliver me from the enemies’ hands.

“To Him who smote the Egyptians in their first-born, for His lovingkindness is everlasting, and brought Israel out from their midst, for His lovingkindness is everlasting, with a strong hand and an outstretched arm, for His lovingkindness is everlasting.” (Ps.136:10-12)

“Though I walk in the midst of trouble, Thou wilt revive me; Thou wilt stretch forth Thy hand against the wrath of my enemies, and Thy right hand will save me.” (Ps.138:7)

5. God’s hand will provide me with many things.

6. God’s hand will lead and empower me.

“If I take the wings of the dawn, if I dwell in the remotest part of the sea, even there Thy hand will lead me, and Thy right hand will lay hold of me.” (Ps.139:9-10)

“Then the hand of the LORD was on Elijah, and he girded up his loins and outran Ahab to Jezreel.” (1 Ki.18:46)

7. God’s right hand is where we, believers, are currently seated with Christ.

“If then you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.” (Col.3:1)

“But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places, in Christ Jesus, in order that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.” (Eph.2:4-7)
