I first heard of J. Warner Wallace’s ministry through my son when he returned from the Summit Student Conference in early 2000. At that time, he was going through a rebellious stage and was skeptical about the Christian faith, but he became back open-minded through one of their speakers. His name was J. Warner Wallace. I was stunned and intrigued. I wanted to know more about who this person was, and how he was effective in communicating to skeptics. I discovered that he was a former atheist and police officer who worked on cold cases but used the same technique to investigate the claims of Christ and the inerrancy of the Bible. He became a believer at the age of 35 and now teaches others to investigate the claims of Christianity for themselves. He has also written about his faith journey in his book called Cold-Case Christianity. I believe that his testimony and his teaching will help any believer who is seeking to be a better ambassador for Christ and communicate the gospel effectively.
“The most popular answer that people have for why they are Christian is that they were raised that way. The second most popular answer is that they had some experience that they think demonstrates for them that Christianity is true… You may have had experiences that led you to truth, but your experiences will not keep you from error… What really matters is: Is this true?” (J. Warner Wallace)
“We’re in a world right now where we are so absorbed with personal experience that testimonies are the highest order. And then what happens is you came to faith because somebody told you that he had this great testimony… and that leader you followed for years falls, the one who had testimony was so pivotal to you is now no longer walking with God, and then you’re like, “Wow.” No! It was never built on that… All I care about is, “What happened? Is that true?” That’s all I want to know. Not what happened to you… I care about what happened to Jesus of Nazareth.” (J. Warner Wallace)
“You search the Scriptures, because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is these that bear witness of Me.” (Jesus, Jn.5:39)
“Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you—unless indeed you fail the test?” (2 Cor.13:5)
“But examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good; abstain from every form of evil.” (1 Thess.5:21-22)
