If There Is No God…

“The fool has said in his heart, ‘There is no God.’” (Psalm 53:1-6, NASB)

What if there is no God? Here in this psalm, David writes about the foolishness of people denying the existence of God and clinging to their godless living. So, what if there is no God? What if the atheists are correct and everything in the world happened by chance? According to King David, it was something unimaginable, unintelligent, illogical, and implausible. It’s something that only a fool would say. He writes, “The fool has said in his heart, ‘There is no God.’” He also says that God looks down from heaven to see if anyone would seek after God and His goodness, and He will judge the righteous and the wicked accordingly. Thus, according to the Scriptures, if there is God, then anyone who says, “There is no God,” is a fool. Yet, what if, in reality, there was no God? What then? When people believe in such a conclusion, they will become immersed in corruption, injustice, ignorance, self-centeredness, greed, and wickedness. Together they will create a community of fools. It is because if there is no God, there would be no such thing as absolute good or evil. In such a world, whatever is beneficial to the individual would be the ultimate good, and things that aren’t will be considered evil. There will be no reason to teach our children about honor, integrity, and truth for none of those things will matter. Whatever you do to benefit the self will become honorable, valuable, and righteous. If there is no God, then Mother Theresa and Adolf Hitler both lived a successful life because they lived doing what they believed to be the right thing. If there is no God, then there is no such thing as heaven or hell. There is also no life after death. If there is no life after death, then there is no judgment after death so whatever you do in this life has no consequences. The rule simply changes to: “Do what you want to do, and don’t get caught in doing it.” If there is no God, then life is truly the survival of the fittest. Whoever has the most toy wins. Whoever has the most power rules. Whoever has the most victories write the history of mankind. If there is no God, then life has no real purpose except to eat, drink, and be happy as long as possible for tomorrow you die, and everything ends. Everyone will adopt an epicurean life philosophy. There is no reason to be moral, compassionate, or just, except when they can bring benefit to you. If there is no God, then human suffering also has no real meaning. You come into this world in pain, poverty, and cruelty and you live through them throughout your life hoping to make some sense of it. Yet in the end, life simply tells you that there is no answer. You just happened to be born on the wrong side of the track. It was just bad luck, and you just happen to be the recipient of it. If there is no God, then billions of people who believe in God and pray to Him are fools and they are people most to be pitied. In fact, these people are not only wrong but evil because they are influencing others to believe in a lie. If there is no God, then anyone who says, “There is God,” is a fool. That is if there is no God…
